L’Occitanie pictures and more

For times sake, below are a bunch of pictures of the south of France, with captions to help guide you. Enjoy!

The garden outside our Airbnb in Carcassonne

The view of the castle and the cité (old town) in Carcassonne from the bridge connecting the “newer” town.

Closer view of the castle, closer to the entrance.

The castle from inside the walls. The first structure dates back to the 1st century. The castle and walls itself have been rebuilt, added onto, and everything else. The Cathars and the French occupied Carcassonne.

This section of the wall was originally built by the Romans in the first century. When discovered after the Romans, the original wall was refortified and added onto.

Inside the castle there is a artifacts section with pieces from through out the castles history. This particular piece is one of the oldest, from the 1st century. You could actually touch it if you wanted, no glass case or anything.

The same view of the cité at night.

The Chateau Puilaurens, about 90 minutes away from Carcassonne and about 2 hours from Andorra.

Mom reflecting on how old everything is, and how they built the castle . Seriously, how did they get all the stone up that steep mountain?

Myself at the top and just outside on le chateau puilaurens.

Outside the truffle museum, located in a small village outside of Carcassonne.

The following 3 photos are of different types of truffles.

Another Cathar castle, which are everywhere in this area of France.

And now the food

Huge prawns with a special cream sauce.!Traditional cassoulet, with sausage, duck and more! So rich!Mom outside at a restaurant about to enjoy our first meal in France.

Mom enjoying the pâté at the truffle bar.

Me trying some blood sausage. I can safely say I don’t need to eat that again.

This wraps up our time in Carcassonne and the south. We then went to the west coast just north of Bordeaux in La Rochelle. That post to follow soon. In the meantime, I leave with a small video of the southern French countryside.
